The 2026 Swim England Masters National Championships came to a close on Sunday 25th October after a final day of exciting racing at Ponds Forge.
The last day of competition got underway with the 4x50m Freestyle relays before swimmers took to the pool for the 200m Breaststroke, 50m Butterfly, 200m Individual Medley, Mixed 4x100m Medley Relay, 4x200m Freestyle relays, 50m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle.
Trafford Metro make it five in a row!
There was a reason to celebrate for our masters as they retained the Otter 150 Cup and were crowned the top-performing club across the championships for a fifth consecutive year.
Introduced in 2019 to celebrate the shared 150th anniversaries of Swim England and Otter Swimming Club, the Otter 150 Cup is awarded to the club that accumulates the highest number of points across the championships.
By the conclusion of Sunday’s racing, Trafford Metro once again topped the standings to secure the prestigious trophy and continue their remarkable run of success stretching back to 2022.
Masters coach Bob Bolton said:
“Hats off to the swimmers – they have been absolutely brilliant and the performances have been off the scale this year once again. And for me personally, to be able to present a lot of the medals here as their coach as well as the regional president, it was the icing on the cake.”
On being asked for the secret behind the continuous success, he said:
“They are all highly motivated. They want to succeed. We train together as a unit, we socialise together. It’s always about being in one team.”
