1913
Founded as Sale Amateur Swimming Club, a teaching and lifesaving club with one evening a week.

1973
Our home, the new Sale Leisure Centre, is completed. The club makes the bold decision to increase water time to four evenings a week, despite not having enough swimmers to justify the expense. This enabled the club to establish itself at the local level, then at the county level and beyond.

1982-83
Early morning training is introduced. Our reputation on a National and International scale is established.

1991
As part of the Trafford Borough initiative, our name changes to Trafford Metropolitan Borough Swimming Club, and we access early evening prime time training.

2007
Our partnership with Trafford Leisure Trust begins to provide seamless swimmer development.

2013

Our club celebrates its 100th year.

2025

Trafford seals another fantastic 3rd place finish in the North West Arena League final for the second consecutive year.

The Masters team continues to go from strength to strength, claiming second spot in the European Aquatics Masters Club rankings whilst also picking up the Cupar Cup (Top Club at British Championships) for the 4th consecutive year.

2026

Our club moves into a new era with a new strategy, branding, and a refreshed website.

Like any non-profit organisation, we have faced many challenges over the years. We remain forever grateful to our dedicated volunteers, who have enabled generations of swimmers to achieve their goals in our pools and beyond.

Our club will never stand still, and we look forward to helping the many generations of swimmers to come.
