A brilliant session for Trafford Met at the Cheshire County Championships saw huge personal bests, multiple finalists, and podium-winning butterfly performances — with one of the standout moments being Tristan Carrasco Ruiz smashing through the 10-minute barrier in the 800m Freestyle.
Tristan’s swim was nothing short of superb, stopping the clock in 9:54.78 — a massive PB and a landmark moment in his development. Breaking 10 minutes in the 800 at Counties is a serious achievement and set the tone for an outstanding Trafford Met showing across the pool.
The 50m Butterfly events then brought wave after wave of quality swims in the morning heats — followed by an electric finals session where Trafford athletes stepped up again to claim county medals, starting with silver and beyond.
Trafford’s butterfly squad delivered when it mattered most:
Isabella Hill powered to 2nd place in the 12yrs final, upgrading her morning swim and standing tall on the podium.
In the fiercely competitive 14yrs final, Evie Webster and Hollie Slade produced identical times of 32.84, finishing joint 7th — a brilliant achievement at county level and a great example of racing courage on the big stage.
Zoey Rogers was sensational in the 16yrs final, storming to silver with a blistering 30.09, one of the standout swims of the session.
In the senior category, Elodie Galvin clinched bronze in the 17yrs/Over final, touching in 30.51 after another composed and powerful race.
Finals racing at this level is brutal — and Trafford Met showed they belong right there among the county’s best.
Massive congratulations to every swimmer who represented the club — these performances don’t happen by accident. The work in training is shining through

Session 2 at the Cheshire County Championships was all about Trafford Met’s breaststroke power.
Across heats and finals the club delivered an outstanding show of depth — stacking finals, collecting medals, and pushing teammates to faster swims under pressure.
The charge was led in style in the 50m Breaststroke, where Eleanor Armstrong qualified strongly in the heats before unleashing a blistering final to take gold in 33.73 — one of the standout performances of the championships so far.
Trafford flooded the finals across the age groups:
Mahla Sohi stepped up in the 12yrs final, touching in 41.16, with Isabella Hill backing it up with another gutsy swim in 44.97.
Lina Khider handled the pressure superbly in the 15yrs final, clocking 37.75 for bronze.
In the senior ranks, Dominika Frackowiak reached the 17+/Open final in 36.27, while Rose Taylor-Bernard, Elodie Galvin and Imogen Brash all posted solid heat swims in deep fields.
Then came one of the races of the meet — the 200m Breaststroke.
In the 14yrs, Trafford produced a sensational 1–2 finish, with Andrew Wu taking control for gold in 2:37.46 and Michael Pudjianto battling right beside him for silver in 2:43.48
Both boys went out near-PB pace at halfway, locked side-by-side through the middle 100 and dragging each other to big swims.
Later in the session, senior swimmer Samuel Lee showed the younger lads exactly how it’s done, powering to silver in the 16yrs with 2:34.22 — composure, strength and race craft all on display.
And a special mention for Rhys Braun, who produced a huge breakthrough in the 15yrs, breaking the 3-minute barrier for the first time with 2:58.60 — a milestone swim at Counties and one that will boost confidence massively going forward.
Behind them, Trafford’s younger breaststrokers laid down great markers too, with Oliver Brittle and S Cornish-Beswick gaining valuable championship experience in the 13yrs.
Across the board — medals, finals, breakthroughs and fearless racing — Trafford Met showed exactly why they’re such a force at Counties

Trafford Met Star in Session 3 at Cheshire Counties — IM Battles, 400m Grit & Fly Firepower!
Session 3 delivered one of Trafford Met’s most exciting blocks of racing so far at the Cheshire County Championships — stacked with finals, medals and breakthrough swims across the board.
The headline moment was the 16yrs 100m IM duel between Eleanor Armstrong and Zoey Rogers. Locked together through heats, the final turned into a thriller — Zoey edging the win in 1:07.61 with Eleanor right behind for silver in 1:08.53. Two elite swims, two athletes dragging each other to another level.
In the 400m Freestyle, Letian Wu showed pure championship grit. Backing up her 800m earlier in the meet, her skills stayed razor-sharp as she went out around 2:10 at halfway and closed hard for a superb 4:28.82 — what a way to open her Championships.
Huge applause too for Isabella Hill, who dropped a massive chunk of time in the 12yrs 400m from the outside lane to take gold in 5:10.35, while Evie Webster got herself right back on track with a confident 4:53.29.
In the IM finals, Lina Khider finished her 15yrs race superbly — attacking the final freestyle leg to climb into bronze position, a brilliant piece of championship race craft.
Over in the sprint events, the boys lit up the pool in the 50m Butterfly.
Elliott Hughes produced one of the swims of the meet, blasting 26.38 in the final — just outside the County record — yet still enough to make him the fastest overall male butterfly swimmer of the session. Huge statement.
Aiden showed his growing strength in the fly too, lowering his time from heats to final and racing with real authority.
Huey Laverack clinched a medal at his very first County Championships in the 13yrs final with 33.01 — a massive moment and a sign of serious promise.
Harry Shea also made the 13yrs final and clocked 33.86, while Samuel Fletcher powered into the 14yrs final with 31.98, showing great composure under pressure.
Another standout Trafford Met session: medals, finals, breakthroughs and fearless racing!
Session 4 was a proper statement session for Trafford Met at Cheshire Counties — with history made, huge PB drops, and a reminder that if you prepare right and bring the right mentality, you can achieve anything.
Elliott Hughes makes history
The headline belongs to Elliott Hughes, who produced a monster double: after racing the 400m Free, he came back later and made history in the 50m Backstroke final, touching in 26.97 for 1st — a new age-group record (as you noted) and a massive moment for the club. Absolute championship mentality.
Etan’s WOW swim — and Aiden right there
In the 14yrs 50m Backstroke, Etan Lo was phenomenal — 2nd in the final in 31.13, just missing gold by the smallest margin. That level of performance has him in the UK Top 50 for his age group (as you said) — serious standard.
Right behind, Cheuk Hei Li was in the fight too, finishing 3rd in 31.38 — Trafford right at the sharp end.
Sam Fletcher: massive PB… then another drop in the final
One of the best “championship racing” stories of the night: Samuel Fletcher smashed a PB in the heats (33.38) and then went again in the final and found another big drop to 32.90 for 7th. That’s learning to race under pressure.
400 Free: smooth and controlled
In the 400m Free, Andrew Wu looked smooth and composed throughout for 4:46.62, while Elliott backed up his record-breaking backstroke with a strong 4:20.35 for 2nd in his age group earlier in the session.
Bella locks in the backstroke
Isabella Hill was clinical in the 100m Backstroke — winning her age group in the heats (1:15.91) and then backing it up in the final with 1:14.24 for 1st. Great race control.
Louisa (Masters): brave, fast, and still building
A special mention for Louisa Zolkiewski in the 17+/Open 100m Backstroke. She produced a brilliant heat swim (1:04.59) — even with the frustration of catching the lane rope late in the race — and while the final wasn’t to be (1:07.56, 3rd), PB-level swimming at Masters age is incredible, and there’s clearly more to come.
