Trafford Masters smashing records again at British Masters Championships

17 June 15

Hot on the heels of our age group swimmers successes at the NW regionals our masters swimmers excelled once again at the British Championships held at the Manchester Aquatic Centre.

A squad of 14 Master swimmers took part in the championships flying the flag for Trafford Metro. 2 ladies stood out amongst the crowd, Lucy Lloyd Roach and Emma Gage. First Lucy broke the 100 Fly record for the 30-34 years age group and then Emma Gage broke the 50Fly record for the 25-29 age group in a time of 28.09. The following session Lucy broke the 200fly record making a hat trick of records for the girls. The times were amazing but so was the team support that came down raced and stayed to shout and cheer everyone on until the end. Well done to all once more, you can keep up to date with our facebook masters page http://www.facebook.com/groups/1510288452555876/ & facebook official page http://www.facebook.com/groups/hellotmbsc/

We are indebted to the girls for compiling the following report – thanks Lucy Emma and Laura. A full set of results can be seen here http://www.swimmingresults.org.uk/masters/results/2015/bsmas15/

Weekend Report

So just to recap day 1: Top 5 finishes from all Trafford swimmers! smile emoticonGreat swimming all round!...

Session 1 consisted of the 800 free and we had a Bronze from Louisa Zolkiewski and a silver from Laura Bowden in their age groups.

Going into session 2, we had 2 golds accompanied by lifetime PBs from Emma Gage (how many seconds did you knock off Emma?) and Lucy Lloyd-Roach in the 100 fly. Craig Ward wasn't going to beaten by the girls and swam a 63 and was awarded a bronze for his efforts (must be the personalised goggles). Laura rounded off the session nicely for Trafford with her second silver of the meet in the 200 back!

Session 3 saw both Emmas tackle the 400 IM with Emma Bisset finishing 5th and Emma G adding another gold to her collection. Impressive swimming ladies! Great to watch!

Round up of Day 3

Session 1

400 free...
Emma was pipped into SILVER place by 0.5 in 4.41.02 (a nice sporting gesture to let the other girl have it) , Lucy GOLD 4.44.85 – both were a little over excited and took it out a bit hard – definitely a case of Max and build!

Mark 5.30. 76 9th (went through 50 in 4.51.33 – next time Mark set your time machine for then end of length 8 rather than length 1) you can tell he's a lawyer, nothing in the rule book about performance enhancing time machines

Session 2

Laura started the final session off in style and added to her and the Club's medal haul off to a good start with a BRONZE in the 100 Back 1.16.24

50 Free

Emma B lead off the Trafford swimmers with a good swim of 35.21 (12th).

Emma G in her 9th and final event of a long weekend (to put it in perspective, I couldn’t take my training suit off unaided at this point and I hadn’t done as much racing), swam the fastest she has ever swum!! GOLD in a time of 26.4 – 0.2 off the British Record and that was with cramp for the whole 50! Phenomenal!

Joe in 26.69 14th and he had the fastest reaction time from Trafford (that I saw) with a 0.17!!

You could see his weekend of sprinting catching up with him as Craig gave it his all and came joint 9th in 26.01

Mark sneaked into the top ten and came 10th in 28.31. It should be noted that he swam his whole 50 without breathing, ‘I got to half way and just didn’t feel like breathing’ (as I type that I can't help but hear it said in the style of Forrest Gump). That makes me dizzy just thinking about it!

Mike swam a 29.63 and came 14th

Alec just finished outside of the medals in 4th in a time of 27.19

Neil SILVER 31.77 – had a strong start, leading for most of the way but couldn’t quite hold off the swimmer who aged up this year and was touched out by 0.3 (looking forward to the re-match at shortcourse).

Then a tough event to round off the weekend: 200 Br!

Emma B got her second top 5 finish of the meet with a 3.36.03, really nice pacing with at 1.46.87 and bring it back in a 1.49.16

Jo and Becky had a nice bit of synchronicity during their 200 br turning together at half way (1.39. 49 and 1.40.79), then Jo started to build the third 50 and finished strong, powering down the last length. Jo finished with a 3.22.61 and Becky with 3.30.71. They finished 5th and 6th respectively.

Joe rounded off his 7 events of the weekend with one of the hardest events and a top 5 finish – 200 breaststroke, it’s the first time he’s swum in in 10 years and knocked 89 seconds off his PB!! Really well paced – 82 and 85!!

Other great swims across the weekend from Trafford friends (swimming under different clubs) Stephen Barton and Rachel O’Gorman. Well done guys!
