Masters Membership

Members are required to pay their appropriate annual club membership fees, associated ASA fees and monthly training fees.

Annual Club Membership fees and Associated ASA fees: These fees are payable annually. The membership secretary will send out reminders. These fees are currently due by 31st December for the following year. Members joining the club pay a pro rata fee from the Month they join. For 2008 the senior membership Club fees are £23.00 First Family member, £18.00 Second Family member, £10.00 Country member, £10.00 Over sixties, £10.00 Student member and the ASA fees are £18.00 for Category 2 (Competitive swimmer) and  £4.75 for Category 1 (non competitive swimmer)

Training Fees: The training fees are calculated on a yearly basis and each member pays the full amount specified for their training membership level irrespective of number of session attended. (NB the pool and other fees have to be paid even if swimmers don't attend, thus the training fees are required from members).

To reduce the administration monthly training fees should be paid by standing order direct to the club's bank account each month. In the event of difficulty in setting up a standing order training fees can by exception be paid by cash or cheque at the club desk which is in the reception on Sundays from 17.30 until 19:30. If you can not get to the club desk, then training fees can be given to Alan Rowson, who will forward them for you.

Training categories:

The leisure centre operating policy places a restriction of 30 swimmers in the pool at any time with the coach acting as life guard. To ensure we don’t break this limit, the committee have designated five training levels of membership, Full Training Member, Full Training Member (waiting list), Friday Member, Country member, Student member.  Details of what these levels offer are listed below.

N.B. If more than 30 swimmers present the masters’ coach has the authority to obtain a second lifeguard which will allow more than 30 swimmers in the water. However we can’t guarantee a second lifeguard at short notice.

Full Training Member: These members are guaranteed a swim at each of the sessions provided. To ensure full members can train at each session it has been agreed by the club committee that the maximum number of full training members is 40. As at September 2008 we are at this level. Please note if Full Training Member arrive late for training and there are already 30 swimmers in the pool they lose their guaranteed place in the water. Please note no refunds or compensation if no swim available on arrival.

If the fees are paid direct to the bank the monthly fee is £27.95. If the fees are paid in cash or cheque the monthly fee is £30.50 and is paid in 11 instalments, no instalment is paid in August if paying by cash or cheque.

New Members: If the club currently has 40 full training members then new members will only be able to join in one of the following categories, either Full Member (waiting list) or Friday Member. The annual membership fees, ASA fees for these categories are as for full members listed above. The training situation and fees are explained below.

Full Training Member (waiting list): The training fees for Full Member (waiting list) are £297.00 per annum, payable either via the bank at £24.75 per month or £27.00 in 11 instalments at the desk. It expected that swimmers in this category would be able to swim in nearly all session provided. However on the odd occasion if more than 30 full training members are present they may not get a swim. Historically in 2007 and 2008, Full Training Member (waiting list) would have been allowed to swim in every session, but can’t be guaranteed in the future as we have more members. Please note no refunds or compensation if no swim available on arrival, which is why the monthly fees are slightly less.

Friday Member: The training fees for Friday Member are £120.00 per annum, payable either via the bank at £10.00 per month or £10.90 at the desk. Friday member are guaranteed a place at Friday training sessions. Typically less than 15 swimmers train on Fridays.

Note payment of Friday training fees is specifically for Friday and does not allow a swim on another day without appropriate payment even if Friday swim missed.

In addition to the above categories the committee may grant alternative membership categories to cover exceptional conditions, e.g. working away from home Monday to Friday. If any member feels they have extenuating circumstances that affects their ability to attend all training sessions on a regular basis and wish to negotiate a special membership they should approach the masters representative of the club committee.

Sunday Member: The training fees for Sunday Member are £180.00 per annum, payable either via the bank at £15.00 per month.

Note payment of Sunday training fees is specifically for Sunday and does not allow a swim on another day without appropriate payment even if Sunday swim missed.

Country Member: This category of membership generally does not allow access to any training session. It was provided to aid swimmers who generally can’t train with us, but require club membership and ASA membership to compete.

Student members: This category is for swimmers who are over 18 and are students in full time education. They have the options of paying either monthly as per training categories above or on as they swim basis. If they pay monthly they take same priority as training category they pay.

Friday Members, Sunday Member, country members, student members may be allowed to swim on Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday, provided there are less than 30 full members in the session (Unfortunately they will have to take the risk of turning up and not getting a swim, currently this does not usually happen. Please note no refunds or compensation if no swim available on arrival). They must pay £4.00 a session (£3.50 for students) for each session they attend and without exception payment should be made before joining the session.

Potential new members are allowed one free trial session, this session to be agreed with the Masters coach or one of the masters’ committee representatives.  As we are a competitive club, swimmers must be able to cope with the training sets, the masters’ coach will decide this. If the masters’ coach decides that the potential new member will be able to cope with the sessions, they will be given joining instructions. Application for joining should be completed ASAP and fees paid. Until the membership application has been processed, potential new members will pay £4.00 a session for each session they attend.

Potential new members may be allowed to swim on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday or Sunday, provided there are less than 30 members in the session (Unfortunately they will have to take the risk of turning up and not getting a swim, currently this does not usually happen). They must pay £4.00 a session for each session they attend and payment should be made before joining the session.

Guests: If Masters swimmers from other clubs are in the area and wish to train with Trafford masters, they must first consult with the coach. Due to the restriction on 30 swimmers maximum in the water at anyone time, then guests will only be allowed to swim if there are less than 30 Trafford members swimming at the session. Guests will pay £4.00 a session for each session they attend and payment should be made before joining the session.

Members who are behind with their fees; If swimmers are behind with their fees they may be refused entry to the training sessions, until the situation has been resolved. This covers Annual Club Membership fees, Associated ASA fees and Training Fees.
