The Adult fitness group (also known as 'adult improvers') caters for a variety of abilities from relative novice to competent swimmer. Most of the group train for general fitness and tend not to compete in the pool, although a growing number are starting to get involved in pool and open water competitions.
The adult improver group, as it was first called, was started in 2010. The original concept was to provide the parents of our age group swimmers with an opportunity to have a go at swimming for themselves.
The group started off with about 7 or 8 parents with a mix of abilities ranging from complete novice to ex-swimmers that hadn't been in the pool for years. All the swimmers regardless of ability, shared a common trait, which was that they all wanted to have a crack at swimming but lacked the confidence to get involved with a Masters group with the enviable reputation that our Masters group has throughout the UK.
Some of the swimmers just wanted a 'safe' environment with familiar faces to help them overcome their fears and reservations about adult swimming. The group has grown over the past 3 years or so into a healthy squad of around 50 swimmers, a number of whom have progressed into the main Masters training group and have started to compete.
