I followed in the family footsteps, joining a Preston swimming club at
11 yrs and excelling as a backstroke swimmer. I attended the Nationals
at Blackpool, Derby Baths, at 16yrs and also performed in a televised
synchro display as a “sygnet” wearing a petaled hat!
I renewed my interest in swimming when my daughter Sara joined Trafford
SC Swim Scheme.
I began to teach within the club and have done so for the last 15 years.
Covering the role of the Swim Scheme co-ordinator, as well as teaching,
and coaching all ages and various abilities. Many of these swimmers have
progressed into the Club and have continued to grow in confidence both
in and out of the pool. I find it very satisfying to watch a non-swimmer
blossom into a confident Club swimmer. I swim as a Masters swimmer
whenever, in my spare time, I can and have been involved in coaching the
group over recent years.
My personal greatest achievement was in 1996, when I came 13th in the
World ladies 100 backstroke in my age group. This year I won Gold in
Northern Counties 100 free.
I have organised ASA Courses and run swim clinics for the younger
swimmers during school holiday periods.
I want all swimmers to enjoy the pleasure and achievement that swimming
can bring. I like to encourage young swimmers to progress from lessons
to swimming for their club and to keep the sport of swimming going into
their teens.

I have always been very interested in sports. As a child I ran for an
athletics club and played tennis within a tennis club.
In high school I became interested in swimming and completed both a
lifeguard and a swimming teacher qualification. I then started to spend
more time on the pool side teaching in the swimming school.
I chose to continue my education at the University of Physical Education
and Sport where I was awarded a Msc degree. During my studies I took a
number of qualifications such as Swimming Instructor, Fitness
Instructor, Aqua Instructor, Reha&Spine Instructor as well as a Body
Ball Qualification that has provided me with a wide sports background.
During my studies I started working in one of the well known swimming
schools where I worked with top polish coaches and swimmers, who took
part in World Championships and finished their career.
I do also have a Diver’s Qualification, Inland Skipper’s Qualifications
and a Motor Boat Helmsman’s Qualification. These are very useful as I am
allowed to sail and dive, this is what I enjoy doing during my free time
Swimming is an important part of my life that gives me plenty of
satisfaction and makes life much more interesting.

My adventure with swimming started in my early years as my parents are
swimming coaches so it was a natural thing to spend a lot of time in the
pool first swimming and then teaching in their swimming school.
When I was 16 years old I became a lifeguard and have completed a
swimming teaching course. Since gaining my first lifeguarding
qualification I took part in many lifeguard competitions, and I have won
many of them. I have been a member of a polish lifeguard team that won
the second place on the international lifeguard competitions in Germany.
I have done all the required qualification and went a long way to become
a Lifeguard Instructor.
I have always been interested in water sports and I have Diver’s
Qualification, Inland Skipper’s Qualifications and Motor Boat Helmsman’s
Qualification.
In 2003 I took a Swimming Instructor Qualification at the University of
Physical Education and Sport and then continued being a part time
swimming instructor in my parents’ swimming school. I am a Civil
Engineer for my full time job.
Swimming lets me have a break from usual day to day activities, and puts
variety in my life. It is skill that will give you plenty of pleasure
and let you meet many interesting people. I am the best example of that
as I moved to the UK in 2005 and swimming helped me get to know many
interesting people here.

RISING STARS

My interest in teaching swimming began 12 years ago, being asked to
assist on poolside as a parent. I was told it was more interesting than
sitting watching from the balcony. They were right! I enjoyed the
experience of helping young swimmers so much that I decide to do the job
properly and gain professional qualifications. I gained my Assistant
Teacher Certificate
and 6 months later attended a residential course to gain my full Teacher
Certificate and NVQ2.
My role within the Club is part time but my experience of teaching and
coaching over the recent years has benefited my day job with the Royal
Bank of Scotland as Training and Development Manager.
I currently teach in Swim Link ASA level 6 upwards prior to joining the
club. I am also Squad coach for Rising Stars.
TMBSC and swimming play an important part in my life and the families.
Both my elder children Heather and Alex swam with the club and then went
on to gain Teacher qualifications. Craig currently trains with Blue
Squad and swimming has assisted his disabilities. I gain great pleasure
watching young swimmers thoroughly enjoying their lessons & training
with enthusiasm and commitment, to which they are all rewarded with the
gift of a new life skill, to be able to swim confidently achieving
personal goals and improving their capabilities.

I have been at the club since 96/97 as a swimmer. I went into teaching
when asked to help out in 2002. Since then I have gone into coaching and
have coached groups RS1 and 2. I am now coach of Junior Squad. I don't
train anymore but can be seen doing the odd length when needed at Peaks
and Plains.
My tip for the swimmers is to attend as many sessions as you can and do
your best when you are in the water. I enjoy the camaraderie I have
between swimmers parent and coaches. My immediate future is at TMBSC. I
always like to do my best by TMBSC.

I first joined Trafford Metro as a Masters swimmer some years ago after
finishing my post as Chief Coach at Old Trafford Swimming Club.
It wasn't long before Bryan Swindlehurst had me back coaching taking
over Junior Age Group & Inter Squad. I coached JAG for 14 months then
moved to coach Inter Squad, which freed up time for me to concentrate on
further developing my coaching qualifications.
I am now qualified to UKCC Senior Coach Level 3 at Performance level
I am still training and competing as a masters swimmer, when I can, and
I have re-joined the committee to support the club in other areas. I am
currently the NW Masters Rep on the ASA Technical Committee and involved
in the Swim North West Management Group.
I am passionate about the benefits of swimming for all ages - come and
have a go!
