Manchester & District Championships
Our swimmers proved to be the top performers at the Manchester & District Swimming Championships on Sunday 10th May. Collecting 9 gold, 6 silver and 5 bronze medals. In the 15 years and over Jonathon Higham collected a bronze in the 50metre freestyle and silver in the 50metre backstroke to add to an impressive victory in the 100metre backstroke. James Scrivener took bronze in the 12 and under 100metre medley. Our girls were responsible for the remaining medal haul A bronze for Ellie Donovan in the 50metre 12 years and under backstroke. In the 13/14 years Bethan Dixon bagged a brace of silver medals for the 50metre freestyle and butterfly events. Natalie Graham won bronze in the 15 years and over for the 50metre backstroke and 100metre freestyle then topped these achievements with a gold in the 50metre breastroke. Danielle Chandler took the silver medal in the 15 years and over 200metre freestyle. Gold medallist in the same event was Sarah Hoye. Sarah then went on to add a silver in the 50metre butterfly and a further gold in the 50metre freestyle, just edging out Louisa Zolkiewski by one hundredth of a second. Despite this Louisa proved to be the star performer of the entire meet as she added this close second to 5 gold medals won in the 50metre butterfly and backstroke events as well as the 100metre backstroke, butterfly and freestyle events. There were a number of very encouraging swims from the younger age groups indicating that our future talent is developing towards more medals in the future. It was particularly pleasing to see how well behaved all the swimmers were on the poolside throughout the day. Everyone showed a very positive attitude to supporting their fellow swimmers with a mature approach to preparing for their swims. Really well done to everyone you have made your coaches and parents very proud.
